Planning a pregnancy

If you wish to become pregnant, please start taking folic acid and vitamin D ahead of time. If you have any concerns about planning a pregnancy, please book an appointment with one of our doctors.

Please see our Preconception advice page for more information.

Both our nurses Rachel Oughton and Alice Wong have extensive experience of contraception. Please book with the nurse for a pill check or depot injection.

Most of our clinicians are able to remove coils. Our receptionists have a list of clinicians who can remove coils, so speak to them before booking an appointment. Please be aware that sperm can live for 7 days so if you do not wish to get pregnant, you need to make sure there is no unprotected intercourse in the 7 days prior to a coil being removed.

Unfortunately we are not able to fit coils and implants at the moment. If you would like a coil or implant for contraceptive purposes you can contact the Mattock Lane Family Planning Clinic on 020 3255 0084 – Monday to Friday, 9am to 12noon. If you would like a coil for another reason, you will need a GP letter and an ultrasound scan before booking in with Mattock Lane and our doctors will be happy to organise this.
